A Great New Year’s Resolution – How To Get Organized

Get Organized and Start the New Year Off Right

With the start of a new year, it’s a great time to start the new year off right and devote some time to get organized. Winter can actually be the perfect opportunity to really clean and organize your home. By getting your organizing tasks done right away, you’ll be all set to greet spring with a neat and clean home. Taking advantage of the cold and dreary winter days to get your self organized will allow you to start the new year off right.

Understanding Your Organization Needs

When it comes to organizing, every home is different so you first need to understand your organizational needs. Although most busy families seem to have problems keeping their closets organized, you might have a particularly pressing organizational need that you would like to start on first. For example, organizing your boxes and drawers of old family photos can be a great way to spend a cold and snowy afternoon. All you need is plenty of work space, your old photos, and a few photo albums and some picture frames. When you’re finished, you’ll have neatly organized photo albums plus some attractive pieces of framed art to display on your walls and table tops. Or, if your closets are your primary organizational challenge, set a weekend aside to work on them as a family. When Monday rolls around, you’ll have wonderfully organized closets and probably a number of items to donate to your favorite charity as a reward for your efforts.

Tips for Organizing Your Kitchen

Your kitchen is another place that will probably need some organizing. If you clean out your cabinets, you are likely to find a number of food items that should be used up. A great way to use up food in your freezer, refrigerator or pantry, is to make soup or stew. And then if you have leftover flour, you can make some homemade bread to go with your soup or stew and make a great tasty meal. And while you’re waiting for your leftover to finish cooking, you’ll still have some time left to clean out some messy cabinets or drawers. Simply by removing unused items from your most cluttered drawers or cabinets, you’ll be amazed to find how much more room you have in your kitchen. Move large serving pieces and seasonal kitchenware to another location such as a basement shelf, creating more space for the items you use every day. Once your kitchen is clean and better organized, you’ll be able to find things more easily and your kitchen will look less cluttered so you can add a few decorative items to dress it up. A new set of dish towels or a few cheerful art prints displayed in picture frames can really spice up the kitchen with color.

How to Get Your Child Organized

If you want to get your whole family involved with getting organized, then you should make it a family activity. Because some children have trouble getting and staying organized, you’ll most likely need to give them som extra help in the process. There will be times when you may need to help them get started or find ways to make it fun so that they want to get organized. Once they get motivated or inspired to get organized, they might surprise you at what a great job they can do in cleaning and organizing their room. Be sure to focus on praising what they did well instead of commenting on the areas they didn’t clean to in order to keep them motivated.
